On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day (WHD), observed on 19 August, we have recorded a short video message by Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response.
In the video she pays tribute to humanitarian workers who risk their lives to save the lives of others, especially to those who have died in service to humanity.
Furthermore, she highlights the important role humanitarian workers play in bringing food, shelter, water, medicine and protection to millions of people suffering because of conflicts or natural disasters.
Finally, she encourages every individual to do more to support humanitarian workers and to add his or her voice to the WHD 2012 “I Was Here” campaign.
Kristalina Georgieva: “Look into your heart and find out what more you can do, whether it is to volunteer or to fund humanitarian work.”
