The United Nations Human Settlements Programme UN-Habitat is the United Nations agency mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities to provide adequate shelter for all.

The main documents outlining the mandate of the organization are the New Urban Agenda, the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, the Habitat Agenda, the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium, and Resolution 56/20.

Our partners are governments, local authorities and their associations, inter-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, research and professional institutions.

The Brussels Office acts as an onsite hub for the partnership with Europe and the European Union institutions, for regional programmes in Europe including Eastern Europe, and supports the technical cooperation activities conducted by UN-Habitat on the ground.
