On 18 June, the European Commission organised a high-level consultation on the Sahel Food Crisis: “Addressing the emergency, investing in resilience”. The meeting was, among others, attended by Tegegnework Gettu, Assistant Secretary-General, Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa, UNDP, and David Gressly, Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel, UNOCHA.
We took this opportunity to ask Mr. Gettu and Mr. Gressly about the situation in the Sahel region, what has been done so far to tackle the food crisis and its underlying causes, and what the next steps should be.
