Millenium International Documentary Film Festival to promote MDGs (Brussels, 8-14 June)

Millenium International Documentary Film Festival to promote MDGs (Brussels, 8-14 June)The third edition of the Millenium International Documentary Film Festival, an independent initiative supported by the United Nations, will kick-off in Brussels on 8 June and will culminate with the award-ceremony on 14 June to the rhythm of Baaba Mal’s music. The week-long Festival will see the projection at Vendôme and CIVA of more than 50 movies from all over the world dealing with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Among them, a selection of 16 documentary films will be competing for awards while film-makers and directors, musicians, writers, journalists, politicians, government officials and UN representatives will be attending the festival to discuss and debate the films and the MDGs at large. The message of the Festival is very simple, yet extremely important: the MDGs are achievable, but this requires a collective effort. Each of us can – and indeed, must – make a contribution. Documentary films are in a privileged position to communicate such a message because they are the product of the personal research and personal engagement of film directors who give a unique emotional and realistic insight into the reality of others.

The opening ceremony on 8 June, at the prestigious Studio 4 of Flagey, will see the screening of the movie “Todos Vós Sodes Capitáns” by Spanish director Olivier Laxe (Critics’ Prize at the Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes 2010), followed by live performances of the Galician group Ialma and the duo Noamir.
