EU Signs New Partnership with UNESCO

© UNESCO/Landry Rukingamubiri8 October 2012 – The EU and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) signed a new deal to bolster cooperation, dialogue, information and best practice sharing between the organisations.

The new Memorandum of Understanding sets out clear strategic priorities and encourages increased policy dialogue in areas of mutual interest between the two organisations, such as education, culture, science and technology, maritime policy and freedom of expression.

It is based on a long-standing cooperation between the organisations, including in the fields of human rights and fundamental freedoms, education, culture, freedom of expression, the safety of journalists, the stabilisation of democratic processes, civil protection and disaster preparedness and cultural heritage preservation.
